these days house music is often about a 4/4 beat and a catchy groove. the idea is to do something simple to which you can get your groove and, and not so much about listening. the borders of electronic dance music makes room for the hypnotic beats, the driving grooves, but not always the melodic universes. leman & dieckmann have been making music for several years, both together and apart, but almost all of their music was driven mainly by the beat. but both having an urge to discover the dynamics of melodic synths and melodic percussion they decided to make an album. they agreed that the album had to tell a story, and like so many times before in music the topic became love. the story they try to tell through the music on the album *takes two* is the story of a breakup, the denial of the need of love, and the discover of the fact that often in life it takes two, to be happy.

roberto bosco has selected in recent months kinys music, to better prepare his first 12 inch, consisting of four tracks, named *damaged memory*. the track *unknown* (a1) leads off the dance of the release on last drop records imprint. it is a proper exploration in an unknown sonic territory to most of the people, and also a difficult element to make out for those who are novice to the visionary component in the musical poetic of kiny. the track starts with rounds of recurring sirens, almost deafening, framed by dark and ghostly noises. something not easily identifiable, ambiguous and unknown, as the title itself says, is perceptible in its sound. all this helps to shape a bad presage that fades away into the mystery.

minimalistic, acid flavours and shlomis signature grooves make up the opening track o.d., while on the flip the label boss brings up the energy for the peak-time with helter skelter. strong, smartly crafted techno once again from shlomi aber on be as one.

after making waves with early and idiosyncratic eps on labels like rush hour and astro:dynamics, singular uk talent bnjmn now steps up to make his debut on delsin with six tracks of experimental and inventive noise and techno. coil opens his account with screechy, unnerving synths squeals, imposing and throbbing pads and super deep kick drums that come at you from miles below. it s a hugely textured and spine tingling affair before the ambiance of berth comes rippled with glassy and alien little melodies. merge has turbo charged drums hiding beneath more unsettled synth based noise that sound sernee at the same time as being paranoid. on the flip, and suddenly makes your hairs stand on end with is gothic celestial glow and slithering synth patterns, blown is a damaged and degraded bit of icy, thumping and reverb heavy techno and azure ends on a brain soothing, chilled out ambient high. these are the sort of truly unique and magically textured tracks you would expect from a producer like bnjmn, and mark a fine debut on delsin.

the original, with a well-constructed bassline incorporates a warm up melody that begins to set the tone for the night ahead. each layer is distinct as the track begins to build itself right to its crescendo when each of those individual layers collectively come together. you can distinctly hear the 80 s like synths that are cleverly inserted into the track which are highlighted by the female vocal samples. the grittier elements add a touch of darkness and instantly transport you to a warehouse club with an intimate atmosphere. the remix, done by the widely loved tech-house duo pleasurekraft jack up the tempo a notch, and add a bouncy groove to the track. where the original brought out a darker side, the remix is more upbeat and settles in well for a peak hour set. bringing that crisp bassline to the fore, and tuning out the melodies to make them a tad subtler it showcases a more tech-house version of the original. there s an added element a slightly more haunted vibe which is coupled together with those gritty and harder elements. all i can conclude is what a tech-house bomb this is from the highly talented pleasurekraft. they always manage to bring something new and unique to every single track they ve ever remixed which truly shows their remarkability as consistently good producers.

accompany the reissue of woo s into the heart of love, emotional rescue is releasing a limited 7inch featuring songs not included on the vinyl pressing, plus a previously unreleased version of the beautiful title song, which only appeared in later form on their cd only, la luna album. with the original into the heart of love album only appearing as a 60 minute cassette-only release, several of the albums songs could not make the first time vinyl issue from emotional rescue. therefore, this limited edition 7inch includes two of those ommited songs. the wistful english folk duet between mark ives and sue amor on make me tea and it s sibling on the album, a little long way. possibly woo s most straight forward folk song, make me tea is as the title imagines a very particular english poem. recording as a duet between two late night lovers, awaking from post-love making slumber to find peace and with it, a nice, perfect cup of tea. however, it is the inclusion of the unreleased version of the title song, magic in the dark that is worth the admission price alone. taken from the cd only album, la luna, the original s short and gentle story of late night love is presented here in it s alternate demo form. a different vantage point is shown in revelation and then exhaltation. the sadder start expands in to a beautiful and wonderus folk celebration. mark s vocals and guitar are later joined by gentle rhythmic percussion from brother clive, before clarinets duet to a yearning finale. woo once again showing their unique mix of folk and new age electronics. a one off to cherish.

if you re going to beat em down, you need the right tools. on the label s second release, grimy trax has given you a couple hammers. the a-side, dejay cease s the fixer is straight chicago. we re talking banging 909 funk that might be found buried on a particularly unhinged ron hardy mix. a simple bass line and two notes of acid are all it takes to make the floor go wild. this is functional heat with enough atmosphere to engage the mind, body and soul. on the b-side, rising chicago son boogienite proves he s earned the hype. boy, ok is an instant classic thanks to some recognizable disco strings and a funky escalator of a bassline. the producer uses a trippy, rubberband synth which eventually turns into rhythmic, teasing vocal. the mixdown is ridiculous, especially as the lengthy track passes the halfway mark. boogie brings the bassline in and out in between beautiful ambient rhodes and a call and response male and female vocal. those strings hit again and you feel no pain.

nsm002 is me, mosca, again. two not-house not-techno tracks, a little more raw and textured than my last 12inch but with the same emphasis on dark, sexy grooves and just enough dissonance and freakiness. the greyhounds is a dubby rolling thing with an indulgent breakdown that i wondered about scrapping. i ended up backing myself because the crowds i played it to seemed happy, and ive wanted to use those strings for eleven years now. i tried to make clinical trial for the basement clubs, dust and metal and tape. thanks for checking it out.

make no mistake, for vault series 15 the doors have been flung open to welcome a new act to the fold. theres very little known about mistake made. no records or releases exist to date, but they have impressed vault chief subjected enough to have them join the sequestered berlin-based crew. and in sublime compliance with the vault series creed, this debut effort from the shadowy outfit presents yet another set of functioning and frill-free dancefloor material, complete with a rusted-through hue of its own. on the a-side >wrist< jumps straight in with marching intent, complete with fidgety hat work thats both anxious and infectious. then on the flip, >ricochet< opens with field recordings tossed into a stormy concoction of ticks, hats and fuzzy atmospherics, teamed up here with one of those basslines that will keep you glued to the floor. >indec< then concludes in signature vault series style an ominous, growling number rattled with alarm bells and screeching, clangorous detail. its one of those monstrous slow-burners that leaves you wounded yet longing for more. all in all, a rounded first release from a new techno tour de force. this isnt the last we will be hearing from mistake made.
